If this is to be taken literally, these would have to be real "Keys" to the real realm known as "Hades", the place of Greek mythology ruled over by the god Hades, brother of Zeus. We know that these greek "gods" do not exist, so why then would greek translators have used "Hades" as their understanding of "Sheol" when bringing the Torah into Koine Greek? I would posit that Hades was the concept which best described that place beyond death, like Sheol, and is referred to by Jesus as "Paradise" to the man on the cross. And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” is what Luke 23:43 states, and yet in John 20:17 the resurrected Jesus tells Mary Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.'", therefor we know that the place Jesus took the thief was not Heaven, but indeed "Hades", where Lazarus and the "Rich Man" are.
