Larry King Has Resurrection All Wrong

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. (Matthew 27:51-52)

Did you read about it? Larry King of Larry King Live fame wants to be frozen so he can come back and have doctors fix whatever it was that caused his death. In a television special, Dinner with King, he said, “I wanna be frozen, on the hope that they’ll find whatever I died of and they’ll bring me back.”

I don’t know about you, but if I was Larry King and could be brought back after being frozen, I wouldn’t want to come back in a seventy-eight year old body that looks like King’s.

Interestingly, King also said, “My biggest fear is death, because I don’t think I’m going anywhere. And since I don’t think that, and I don’t have a belief. I’m married to someone who has the belief so she knows she’s going somewhere.”

King doesn’t get it even though he sleeps right beside someone every night who does get it. His wife understands the scriptural principles that rule over life and death.

First of all, the Bible is clear that there will be no second chances at life. “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27) In other words, while cryonics may preserve your body indefinitely, there is no chance that you will ever take another breath when you come out of the tank. It’s just not going to happen, period.

Ironically, while cryonics is real, the technology to revive a person doesn’t exist. As Christians, we understand that the only way to come back is through salvation. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Larry King believes cryonics offers his only chance for resurrection. What he has yet to understand is resurrection is possible, but only through faith in Christ. That’s what Jesus meant when he said, “He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:39)

King actually does understand that a resurrected life is a life that has conquered death, a life that entered into death, remained in death for a period of time, and then came out of death. What he fails to understand is that the only way to experience a resurrected life is through faith in Jesus.

So you see, Larry King doesn’t have to spend all that money. His grave will crack open one day, even if he’s frozen in a tank. I just hope he finds Jesus before he goes because Jesus said this about resurrection: “For the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.” (John 5:28-29)

  1. Re. Larry King… I would reflect that Larry King has welcomed so many well-known Christian pastors/writers on his program over the years, which is a standout for him, being that he was raised Jewish; I think that takes guts. Using Mr. King in your latest “blog” sounds to me a bit bitter and not so Jesus-like at all; I guess that why so many like to separate those who sound holier-than-thou to those who are believers and use the positives from a source; your negative piece on Mr. King, is really a shame… on you..

  2. Hi Mike,

Your website is topnotch!I intend to get to your book, but seminary has had me busy. In July, I was also called to be the minister ot Rocky Creek Presbyterian in jefferson, SC. So these day, I labor between lawpractice, seminary and church.
I started a blog of sermons. The address is pastoratthecreek.blogspot.com Check it out when you get a moment. Would love to know what you think. I have been surprised at some of the hits. I seem to be developed followings in Russia and Germany.
God be with you and yours this Christmas season. If you are down this way, please look me up!

  3. What’s our responsibility here? Well… I hope every Christian who saw the
show prayed for Larry King’s salvation. His poor eyes are blinded by the evil one and he cannot see spiritual things. What a great influence this man could be on fire for Jesus Christ! He already seems like a nice man. God bless you and your family, Mike Ruffin!
